Just a few things we loved about our first year of swim team:

1. Kids don't have to be expert swimmers to be on the team. They knew none of the strokes at the beginning. By the end, they were swimming like fish and had cut their times down tremendously! If broken down, the cost per hour is just pennies....way cheaper than swim lessons!

2. Taking my all of my kids to same practices and same meets.....no more "splitting" up the family with my husband driving one way and me driving the other.

3. Meeting new families.....swim team is very family oriented. You bring your chairs, umbrellas, and coolers and have a ball!

4. It is neat to see mixed ages and gender compete on the same team together. Itty bitty five year old girls contribute to the team as much as the big hulking eighteen year old boys! The little kids really look up to the bigger kids as something to strive for.

5. Early practice times were actually a blessing. I accomplished a lot this summer by waking up early instead of sleeping the mornings away.

6. The kids absolutely loved the ribbons they earned at each meet. They display them in their rooms with pride. The trophy at the end of the year was great. These things really boosted their self-esteem a lot.

7. The end of the year banquet was fantastic. There was food, drinks, dessert, video, slide show, presentation of awards, and honoring of Seniors and their parents. What other sport has something like this?

I have been on the Roselle Racers for five years and four of those five years my coach was Coach Scott. Scott is a really great coach (even though sometimes he gets REALLY into the meets and times and what not) and always is cheering us on, leading team cheers, at the meets, encouraging us, telling us what we need to work on, etc. Also, Coach Jacki really helped me to by working with my age group really hard at practices on stroke drills which personally helped me with my butterfly (which was not by any means my best stroke). My favorite events to swim in a meet are the 100 IM, 50 free, both relays, 50 breast, and 50 back. I have made so many friends on the racers, who every summer I look forward to seeing. My favorite team to swim against is Itasca because even though they are bigger than us, we always seem to swim our best at that meet.

My first summer on the Roselle Racers was the summer of '99. Coach Ellen was one of my best friends mom's so I knew her and she helped me by personally teaching me different techniques to help me swim my best. I lived a block from Kemmerling and could walk there in the morning and then walk home. I remember my first meet I was terrified that I would mess up and do something really stupid, but because of Coach Ellen's help I did really good and had a blast.

There are always a couple times during the summer that I didn't want to go to swim team because of the early practices, but my mom always makes me go and because of that I have been able to get my times to personal bests and help my team. Losing "A" conference wasn't what I had hoped would happen to us, but we all swam our best and hopefully next summer we can dominate.
